Origin Restaurant ChallengeThe inaugural Origin Restaurant Challenge was a very closely fought contest with only one point separating the first 3 contestants. The winner was Holiday Inn who presented three superb courses representing the signature dishes from their Restaurant. The Holiday Inn team consisting of Bill Leonardo, George Kalomuen, Asnet Lopat and Florence Thomas had worked tirelessly coming in to the Salon to ensure that they presented quality food and offered great service to the invited guests. Their hard work definitely paid off for them.
The concept of the Origin Restaurant Challenge was well received by the public and a competition more in keeping with the Vanuatu lifestyle. For the Restaurants that competed it was an opportunity to showcase their signature dishes and impress both onlookers and invited guests. The guests were treated to fantastic service and a wine list that was individually matched to their menus with fine wines supplied from Libation Trading (thanks Scott).
The inaugural entrants for the event were, Eratap Beach Resort, La Tentation, Warwick Le Lagon (Wild Ginger), Coconut Palms Resort, Chantillys on the Bay, Iririki Island Resort and of course the Holiday Inn.
As winners of the Origin Restaurant Challenge the Holiday Inn received a cheque for 100,000Vt, a very impressive Trophy and certificate for use in their Restaurant.
Equal Runners up were Chantillys on the Bay and Iririki Island Resort (Team 2).
The Vanuatu Chefs and Food Handlers Association believe this competition can only grow in strength and will become the prestigious award for Vanuatu restaurants to strive for now that there has been the demise of the annual Tourism awards for best Restaurant.
