Culinary Arts Show

Vanuatu successfully tendered to hold the 2012 Pacific Rim Culinary Challenge and it was the first time we have seen all Pacific Rim Nations present at a culinary Challenge. The teams from New Zealand, Guam, Fiji, Australia and Vanuatu competed for the honour of being named the culinary nation of the Pacific Rim. This year the winner was New Zealand who produced some amazing food. The runner up (Silver) went to Australia with Fiji taking the Bronze position.

All competitors were extremely impressed by the level of professionalism displayed at this years Salon Culinaire and the teams thanked Vanuatu as a whole for their welcoming and friendly nature and their amazing fresh produce.

Glenn Austin {President- Pacific Region WACS}, Cassandra Austin (Australia) and Sam Timoko (Cook Islands) were the chief judges for the challenge. The first event was a Canape evening where the teams were required to produce 48 hot and cold canapes exhibiting flavours from their country. There were some fantastic canapes produced and the Judges were hard pressed to choose a winner. The second event was a 'Mystery Box' whereby the competitors were given a box of products and were required to produce a 3 course meal based on the items in the mystery box. Yet again there were some really innovative dishes produced and all countries represented were very proud of their final offerings for the judges.

Guests were also invited to both events and all enjoyed the experience of tasting food cooked by some of the best Chefs in our region. The canape evening kicked off the night with a performace from the Wan Smol Bag Fire Dancers, who enthralled the guests with their skill and fearless act.

The Vanuatu team did the country proud and produced some amazing dishes showcasing produce from our region. Our team was captained by Bill Leonardo and the junior Rep was our Junior Chef of the year 2012 Lorrin Kampai.
